Announcing the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grants presented by SeaMountain and Chubb

The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of those that have positively impacted our lives, shall never pass away.

The late Shannon Hendrickson made a strong impact on our enjoyment of horses, set a high standard of horse care, and tirelessly fostered youth participation in Northwest horse sports that will be felt for generations to come.

In honor of her memory, and to further that commitment to the development of young riders, Cascade Horse Shows is proud to announce the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grants generously presented by SeaMountain Agency and Chubb Insurance.

Each of these four grants will award $500 to a rider 18 and younger to be applied toward entries at any Cascade Horse Shows’ event.* To qualify, young riders must submit essays about someone who has made a lasting difference in their enjoyment of horses and the quality of their horsemanship.

One grant will be awarded at each of our four shows throughout the season. Applicants need not plan to attend a show to apply for that show’s grant award, and need not be present to receive their awards, though we would love it if they were! Winning essays will be read aloud during the announcements.

Cascade Horse Shows is deeply grateful to SeaMountain and Chubb for making these grants possible for our community.

Pacific Crest Open Stall Reservations Open May 2nd

We are happy to announce that stall reservations and RV site requests for July’s Pacific Crest Open horse show, which offers both USEF rated and USHJA Outreach classes, will open on Monday, May 2nd at 9:00 am. (The prize list will be posted and entries will open at a later date, to be announced.)

Our July show will feature more of our exciting Spotlight classes and provide everyone a fun showing opportunity this summer. As a reminder, this show is eligible for our Cascade Circuit Championships, and you qualify for a discount if your entries are received prior to the close date of Friday, June 17. Remember to bring your show dogs to take part in our fan-favorite Cascade Canine Derby!

If the Pacific Crest Open is to be your first show with us this season, please note that to enter a Cascade show you must have reserved stalls for your horses and tack in advance (no entries can be accepted without stall reservations). To make this as easy as possible, we have created a convenient online reservation form.

Trainers (or their authorized agents), or individual exhibitors not affiliated with a trainer, may reserve stalls for the Pacific Crest Open beginning May 2nd at 9:00 am.  RV site requests will also open to everyone at the same time:

We remain committed to delivering a safe showing experience, and we are carefully monitoring both the EHV-1 and COVID-19 situations in our state. Read our COVID-19 guidelines as you prepare to come to the Horse Park. Things will be more relaxed this year (masks optional), but as before we will be providing daily packets for trainers to make exchanging information with the Show Office easier while supporting distancing.

As always, we are looking forward to seeing you soon in Cle Elum!

2021 Cascade Circuit Cup Champions Named

We are excited to announce our Cascade Circuit Cup award winners for 2021. (Because of our shortened season last year, our announcement is later than usual; a big thank you to our winners for their patience!)

The Cascade Circuit Cup is bestowed upon the horses accumulating the most points in one of five categories in rated competition through the Cascade show season, culminating in our Cascade Finals show in September. All horses are eligible. Each winner receives valuable prizes honoring their achievement. We are excited to see who this season’s big winners will be. See you in September!

And the Circuit Cup winners for 2021 are:

Cascade Circuit Cup - USHJA HUNTER DERBY

Presented by Brick Road Farms

CLOSING TIME
Owned and Ridden by KELSEY KING
Trained by Denise Youell, FARPOINT FARMS

Cascade hunter derbies challenge both horse and rider to demonstrate brightness and pace in the hunt field, and this year’s winner did all that and more. Closing Time, the Buckskin Dutch Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Kelsey King, locked up this championship by winning the USHJA National Hunter Derbies at both the Swiftwater Invitational and Alpine Preview shows. Deserved and happy tears flowed as this was a crowning achievement of the partnership between Kelsey and Closing Time.

Thank you Carol Hinckley of Brick Road Farms for sponsoring this wonderful year-end award.

Congratulations again Kelsey King & Denise Youell on Closing Time’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - HUNTER 3' AND UP

MTM CHECK ME OUT
Owned by Ridden by MARY-LOU MISRAHY
Trained by Shelly Kerron, LEGACY HUNTERS & JUMPERS

To win this award requires an impressive showing in a variety of classes, demonstrating beautiful hunter form over fences. MTM Check Me Out, the bay Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Mary-Lou Misrahy, did just that, winning Champion in the Performance Hunter 3’3″/3’6″ at both the Swiftwater Invitational and Alpine Preview shows.

Thank you to our extraordinary sponsors who made this award possible: Jamie Kosele of PNW Stubben Saddles, Shelly Kerron of Legacy Hunters & Jumpers, Carol Hinckley of Brick Road Farms, Mike Akers with Olson’s Tack Shop.

Congratulations Mary-Lou Misrahy and Shelly Kerron on MTM Check Me Out’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - JUMPER 1.10 AND UP

PIMLICO
Owned and Ridden by ELIZABETH CHAMPAGNE

Jumping 1.10m and above is when you’re considered to have hit the big times in show jumping, and all the competitors vying for this award have earned their place in the ring. But it was Pimlico, the bay Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Elizabeth Champagne, that rose to the top this season. Pimlico and Elizabeth were Champion in the Jumper 1.15m section at the Alpine Preview show and had consistent high placings throughout. A well earned win.

Thank you to all the fabulous sponsors behind this award: Abbie Block with Absolute Horse, Horseware of Ireland, Lori Houston with Whittier Trust, Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design and Ansara Patterson of Geneva Financial.

Congratulations Elizabeth Champagne on Pimlico’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - JUMPER UP TO 1.05M

NEWTORIUS
Owned and Ridden by KELLI WEBBER
Trained by Shannon Hendrickson, SIGNATURE WEST FARMS

You’ve got to be fast, clear and completely in the zone to be the winner of the Cascade Circuit Cup Jumpers Up To 1.05. Newtorius, the bay Holsteiner mare owned and ridden by Kelli Webber, was all those things at every show they entered last season. Newtorius, with Kelli on board, was Champion in the Low Adult Amateur Jumpers .90m at both the Alpine Preview and Pacific Crest Open shows, and they won numerous individual classes in both the .85 and .90 Jumper sections.

Thank you to all the phenomenal sponsors behind this award: Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design, Morgan Carr with Encanto Valley Farm, and Katherine Wade-Easley with Sundance Equestrian.

Congratulations Kelli Webber (and to Shannon in memory) on Newtorius’ big win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - HUNTER UP TO 2'9

FILIBUSTER
Owned and Ridden by JODI GEARON
Trained by Sarah Olmstead, BRASS RING FARMS

Precise form and composure under saddle are essential to winning the low hunter divisions, and that’s what Filibuster, the chestnut Thoroughbred Cross gelding owned and ridden by Jodi Gearon, demonstrated at every show this season. At Swiftwater, the pair were Champion in the Long Stirrup Hunter 2’3″ 18 and over and Reserve Champion in the USHJA Hunter 2’6″ sections. They were Champion in the Long Stirrup Equitation 2’3″ section at Alpine. At the Pacific Crest Open they earned Champion in the USHJA Hunter 2’6″ and the Long Stirrup Hunter 2’3″ 18 and over sections. A truly well deserved win.

Thank you to all the wonderful sponsors behind this award: Dianna Connelly Insurance Services, Kelsey King of American Mechanical Corp. Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design, Shannon Hendrickson of Signature West Farms, The Grange of Issaquah, and Denise Youell of Farpoint Farms.

Congratulations Jodi Gearon and Sarah Olmstead on Filibuster’s win!

We appreciate that you have a choice of shows to attend throughout the year. Thank you for choosing to spend time with us in the Cascades. We look forward to seeing you in Cle Elum!

Entries are scheduled to open in April, and the prize list will be posted on or before that date. Reminder: stall reservations are required to enter the shows.

More information regarding our July Pacific Crest Open show will be available soon.

Scratch / Cancellation Deadline

Due to the early sell-out, the new deadline for changing your stall counts or scratching from the June shows without penalty is Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Those holding reserved stalls will receive an email with more details shortly.

Please note that we are carefully and cautiously monitoring the EHV-1 situation in Washington state. The welfare of our equine partners is of foremost concern to Cascade Horse Shows and the Washington State Horse Park. For now we are moving forward, but we will let you know should anything change.

We appreciate your interest in our shows, and we look forward to another great horse show season at the Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum.

June Stall Reservations Open March 18

We are gearing up for another great season of showing at the Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum.  So, we are excited to announce that stall and RV reservations for June’s Swiftwater Invitational and Alpine Preview horse shows will open on Friday March 18. Entries are scheduled to open in April; the prize list will be posted on or before that date.

Please note that we are making some changes to the entry process this year. The most notable change for 2022 is that to enter a Cascade show, you must reserve stalls for your horses and tack in advance. We cannot accept entries without stall reservations. To make this as easy as possible, we have created a convenient online reservation form.

If you are a trainer or an authorized agent of one, or an individual exhibitor not affiliated with a trainer, you may reserve your stalls beginning March 18. RV site requests will also open to everyone on the same day:

Stall Reservations RV Site Requests

Reservation process

You will be notified when we receive your form and then we will confirm your reservation within 7 business days. In the case that stalls sell out prior to the close of entries, we will add your reservations to our waitlist.

If after making your reservation you wish to change your stall counts or cancel your reservation, you may do so at no charge any time prior to the close of entries or when the show sells out (whichever comes first). Simply notify us via email at [email protected] or via text to (360) 573-4360.

Final confirmation
We will reach out to you approximately 6 weeks prior to the show (if the show sells out) or 3 days prior to close of entries and you will have 72 hours to confirm your final stall counts. If we do not hear back from you at this time, we will release your stalls to others on our waitlist.

Please note that the stalls you confirm are final past this 72-hour window (even if you haven’t submitted entries yet), so please only reserve stalls you are confident you will use.

In Summary

  • Reserve your horse and tack stalls prior to submitting entries to the shows
  • Stall reservations will be final past the close of entries or the show sell-out date, whichever occurs first
  • We will give you at least 72 hours to confirm your final stall counts, during which time you can adjust your counts or cancel your reservation at no charge

We believe that following this process will make for a smoother pre-show experience that is fair to everyone. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at [email protected]

As always, we are looking forward to seeing you soon in Cle Elum!

Welcome Jennifer Hansen to Cascade Horse Shows as Competitions Manager

We are thrilled to announce that Jennifer Hansen has joined Cascade Horse Shows as our new competitions manager and partner. Jennifer has been an avid supporter of Cascade Horse Shows since its inception. In addition to over 25 years working many aspects of the hunter jumper industry, she also serves as huntsman for the Woodbrook Hunt Club.

This change comes as Andrea Schroeder, after 30 years of managing shows, has decided it’s time to spend her summers showing her own jumper Kolibri and cycling and traveling with her partner Tim. Andrea will continue to support our shows and will work closely with Jennifer to ensure a smooth transition.

Jennifer says it is in part the skills she has acquired as a huntsman that have prepared her for her new role with Cascade:

“Foxhunting is about much more than just hounds and horses. It’s about conservation, community, fostering relationships between sport and landowners, and creating a safe space, free of bias for all ages to enjoy the outdoors with respect.”

These values are similar to the mission on which Cascade Horse Shows was founded. Hansen continues:

“I hope to use my experience as liaison between Joint Base Lewis McChord, the Woodbrook Hunt Club, and the Woodbrook Foundation (a 501c3 organization) to strengthen the relationship between Cascade Horse Shows and the Washington State Horse Park, and with the equestrian community as a whole.”

With Jennifer on board, we know our shows will remain in good hands.

On to 2022

Please bear with us as we get things rolling for the 2022 season. The labor shortage that caused the cancellation of the Cascade Finals in 2021 is real. We are in the process of reviewing and reworking the schedules for this year’s competitions to take into consideration the staffing and the resources of the Horse Park. Long show days make for tired competitors and show staff alike. It’s our goal to address this issue while maintaining the fun and excitement that are the hallmarks of the Cascade show experience.

With your support, Cascade Horse Shows continues to offer exciting competition in the mountain setting of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Our shows are fun for the whole family, from lead line and Outreach classes, to National Hunter Derbies, Derby Cross and Grand Prix show jumping.

Our 2022 show dates are set, and we are working hard to bring you another memorable season of showing in Cle Elum. We look forward to seeing you in June!

Labor Shortage Forces Cancellation of Cascade Finals

First, a big thank you to everyone who attended our Cascade shows in June and July! We drew a record number of entries across all four shows, and we were gratified to see many new barns from inside and outside Washington state join our long-time supporters in Cle Elum.

In recent days, many of you have been asking about our Cascade Finals show in September. We had been working hard on this event, even expanding our schedule by an extra day this year. However, circumstances outside of our control have disrupted these plans.

From recent national headlines, you may know the country is amidst a nationwide labor shortage. This has impacted our venue partner, the Washington State Horse Park. They recently informed us that they are unable to secure enough experienced grounds management personnel to meet the requirements of a show of our size, quality and discipline during September.

We want to give the Horse Park the time and opportunity to fill its resource shortage. So rather than move forward with a compromised experience, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our September show.

While this is disappointing, we believe the Washington State Horse Park to be a truly special venue, one we expect to host our shows for years to come. We support their mission to be a top-notch equestrian facility and intend to continue our close partnership.

For now, we are setting our sights on 2022. We plan to bring even more excitement to everyone again next season starting with our June shows. Please mark these dates in your calendars:

  • Swiftwater Invitational, June 15-19, 2022
  • Alpine Preview, June 22-26, 2022

Wishing you and your horses all the best,

Your Cascade Horse Shows Team

July Show Entries Open, Prize List Posted

We are pleased to announce that we have opened entries for our 2021 July Cascade shows, including the brand new Pacific Crest Preview on July 10-11, generously presented by Oak Street Law Group, and our signature Pacific Crest Open and Pacific Outreach, now expanded to 5 days, July 14-18.  We would like to thank all of our great sponsors for helping to make these shows possible.

Our July shows will feature more of our exciting spotlight events and provide everyone a fun showing opportunity this summer. As a reminder, all of rated events in July are eligible for our Cascade Circuit Championships, and you can qualify for a discount if your entries are received prior to the early entry deadline of Monday, June 28.

To get started with your show planning, check out the prize list for our July shows. Be sure to request your RV sites if you haven’t already done so. We have seen high demand for our June shows and expect the same in July, so please get your entries in soon.

Trainers: Entries for the July shows through Equestrian Connect and HorseShowing.com are not yet available. If you use those systems, please make sure you have requested stalls for your stable and ordered tack stalls so that we know your plans.

Don’t forget that this year we have all new footing in our Grand Prix jumper ring, and that Hunter 1 action will take place in the Horse Park’s fabulous new covered arena. There are lots of exciting changes afoot in Cle Elum, and we are excited for you to enjoy them.

We remain committed to delivering a safe showing experience, and we remind you to read our COVID-19 guidelines as you prepare to come to the Horse Park. As with our June shows, we will be providing daily packets for trainers to make exchanging information with the Show Office easier while supporting distancing.

Everyone in attendance, including staff, officials, and family members, will need to sign our required liability releases and COVID-19 agreement before arriving at the Park this year. We urge you and the rest of your barn family to do this as soon as possible, and to help any non-showing family members who may join you to do the same.

The demand for our June shows frankly took us off guard, and things have been more hectic than usual. We have rolled out new technology this season and have some new faces in the Show Office too. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work out the kinks, and we remain dedicated to delivering our signature fun and family-friendly vibe at our shows.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Cle Elum this July!
