Our Community: Achieving What It Cares About

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
– Margaret J. Wheatley

This has never been more evident than with our community of devoted sponsors, donors and patrons who contribute so much to support your showing experience. They care about the same things you care about, which is why they do what they do to help make our shows special.

You care about having a horse-friendly venue where horses leave feeling as good as when they arrived. We are fortunate to partner with the Washington State Horse Park–a venue with abundant natural “horse-friendly” features. However, it still takes annual investment in arena footing and surrounding amenities to make the improvements that keep our horses feeling their best. You make this possible through your attendance, matched by:

  • The generous donation of the Hallman-Luhn Family of Equidae Farm, combined with a corporate match from Microsoft and the individual support of many of our exhibitors, which has funded the matting of all the permanent stalls at the Horse Park.
  • The multi-year sponsorships of Farpoint Farm, Legacy Hunters & Jumpers, Sundance Equestrian combined with the Cascade Partnership’s ongoing reinvestment in the Horse Park, which has helped to fund annual re-grading of the footing in every arena, plus helped to purchase the equipment that maintains it.

When you win, you care about feeling like a winner at every level: taking that victory gallop, joining the awards presentations, and receiving quality prizes. We know you have as much reason to celebrate in winning a round at 18″ as at 1.30m. Thanks to the sponsorship of these fine businesses and the stellar people who run them, we are able to offer you more prize money, more prizes, and more recognition at all levels:

You care about showing in an inclusive environment where you and your whole family feel appreciated and welcomed. One way we bring that to you is through our complimentary happy hours and hospitality events. These are delivered to you through the generous sponsorship of:

You care about having fun and distinctive classes that uniquely challenge your riding and horsemanship: You help us create these through your attendance, matched by the sponsorships of:

You care about creating opportunities for those “just starting out”,  be it horse or rider. And thanks to sponsorship of IOS Ranch, we are able to offer you our Young Horses / OTTB Thoroughbreds Show Free program. And with the support of SeaMountain Insurance and Chubb, we are able to offer the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grants.

Whether through our community’s charitable donations to the Horse Park, our sponsors’ generous support, or your continued attendance at each of our shows, we are in this venture together to achieve what we collectively care about most: having great showing opportunities in Washington State.

And for that we are truly thankful.

Announcing the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grants presented by SeaMountain and Chubb

The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of those that have positively impacted our lives, shall never pass away.

The late Shannon Hendrickson made a strong impact on our enjoyment of horses, set a high standard of horse care, and tirelessly fostered youth participation in Northwest horse sports that will be felt for generations to come.

Current Essay Specifications and Submission Requirements

In honor of her memory, and to further that commitment to the development of young riders, Cascade Horse Shows is proud to announce the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grants generously presented by SeaMountain Agency and Chubb Insurance.

Each of these four grants will award $500 to a rider 18 and younger to be applied toward entries at any Cascade Horse Shows’ event.* To qualify, young riders must submit essays about someone who has made a lasting difference in their enjoyment of horses and the quality of their horsemanship.

One grant will be awarded at each of our four shows throughout the season. Applicants need not plan to attend a show to apply for that show’s grant award, and need not be present to receive their awards, though we would love it if they were! Winning essays will be read aloud during the announcements.

Cascade Horse Shows is deeply grateful to SeaMountain and Chubb for making these grants possible for our community.

Pacific Crest Open Stall Reservations Open May 2nd

We are happy to announce that stall reservations and RV site requests for July’s Pacific Crest Open horse show, which offers both USEF rated and USHJA Outreach classes, will open on Monday, May 2nd at 9:00 am. (The prize list will be posted and entries will open at a later date, to be announced.)

Our July show will feature more of our exciting Spotlight classes and provide everyone a fun showing opportunity this summer. As a reminder, this show is eligible for our Cascade Circuit Championships, and you qualify for a discount if your entries are received prior to the close date of Friday, June 17. If the Pacific Crest Open is to be your first show with us this season, please note that to enter a Cascade show you must have reserved stalls for your horses and tack in advance (no entries can be accepted without stall reservations). To make this as easy as possible, we have created a convenient online reservation form.

We remain committed to delivering a safe showing experience, and we are carefully monitoring both the EHV-1 and COVID-19 situations in our state. Read our COVID-19 guidelines as you prepare to come to the Horse Park. Things will be more relaxed this year (masks optional), but as before we will be providing daily packets for trainers to make exchanging information with the Show Office easier while supporting distancing.

As always, we are looking forward to seeing you soon in Cle Elum!

2021 Cascade Circuit Cup Champions Named

We are excited to announce our Cascade Circuit Cup award winners for 2021. (Because of our shortened season last year, our announcement is later than usual; a big thank you to our winners for their patience!)

The Cascade Circuit Cup is bestowed upon the horses accumulating the most points in one of five categories in rated competition through the Cascade show season, culminating in our Cascade Finals show in September. All horses are eligible. Each winner receives valuable prizes honoring their achievement. We are excited to see who this season’s big winners will be. See you in September!

And the Circuit Cup winners for 2021 are:

Cascade Circuit Cup - USHJA HUNTER DERBY

Presented by Brick Road Farms

CLOSING TIME
Owned and Ridden by KELSEY KING
Trained by Denise Youell, FARPOINT FARMS

Cascade hunter derbies challenge both horse and rider to demonstrate brightness and pace in the hunt field, and this year’s winner did all that and more. Closing Time, the Buckskin Dutch Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Kelsey King, locked up this championship by winning the USHJA National Hunter Derbies at both the Swiftwater Invitational and Alpine Preview shows. Deserved and happy tears flowed as this was a crowning achievement of the partnership between Kelsey and Closing Time.

Thank you Carol Hinckley of Brick Road Farms for sponsoring this wonderful year-end award.

Congratulations again Kelsey King & Denise Youell on Closing Time’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - HUNTER 3' AND UP

MTM CHECK ME OUT
Owned by Ridden by MARY-LOU MISRAHY
Trained by Shelly Kerron, LEGACY HUNTERS & JUMPERS

To win this award requires an impressive showing in a variety of classes, demonstrating beautiful hunter form over fences. MTM Check Me Out, the bay Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Mary-Lou Misrahy, did just that, winning Champion in the Performance Hunter 3’3″/3’6″ at both the Swiftwater Invitational and Alpine Preview shows.

Thank you to our extraordinary sponsors who made this award possible: Jamie Kosele of PNW Stubben Saddles, Shelly Kerron of Legacy Hunters & Jumpers, Carol Hinckley of Brick Road Farms, Mike Akers with Olson’s Tack Shop.

Congratulations Mary-Lou Misrahy and Shelly Kerron on MTM Check Me Out’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - JUMPER 1.10 AND UP

PIMLICO
Owned and Ridden by ELIZABETH CHAMPAGNE

Jumping 1.10m and above is when you’re considered to have hit the big times in show jumping, and all the competitors vying for this award have earned their place in the ring. But it was Pimlico, the bay Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Elizabeth Champagne, that rose to the top this season. Pimlico and Elizabeth were Champion in the Jumper 1.15m section at the Alpine Preview show and had consistent high placings throughout. A well earned win.

Thank you to all the fabulous sponsors behind this award: Abbie Block with Absolute Horse, Horseware of Ireland, Lori Houston with Whittier Trust, Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design and Ansara Patterson of Geneva Financial.

Congratulations Elizabeth Champagne on Pimlico’s win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - JUMPER UP TO 1.05M

NEWTORIUS
Owned and Ridden by KELLI WEBBER
Trained by Shannon Hendrickson, SIGNATURE WEST FARMS

You’ve got to be fast, clear and completely in the zone to be the winner of the Cascade Circuit Cup Jumpers Up To 1.05. Newtorius, the bay Holsteiner mare owned and ridden by Kelli Webber, was all those things at every show they entered last season. Newtorius, with Kelli on board, was Champion in the Low Adult Amateur Jumpers .90m at both the Alpine Preview and Pacific Crest Open shows, and they won numerous individual classes in both the .85 and .90 Jumper sections.

Thank you to all the phenomenal sponsors behind this award: Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design, Morgan Carr with Encanto Valley Farm, and Katherine Wade-Easley with Sundance Equestrian.

Congratulations Kelli Webber (and to Shannon in memory) on Newtorius’ big win!

Cascade Circuit Cup - HUNTER UP TO 2'9

FILIBUSTER
Owned and Ridden by JODI GEARON
Trained by Sarah Olmstead, BRASS RING FARMS

Precise form and composure under saddle are essential to winning the low hunter divisions, and that’s what Filibuster, the chestnut Thoroughbred Cross gelding owned and ridden by Jodi Gearon, demonstrated at every show this season. At Swiftwater, the pair were Champion in the Long Stirrup Hunter 2’3″ 18 and over and Reserve Champion in the USHJA Hunter 2’6″ sections. They were Champion in the Long Stirrup Equitation 2’3″ section at Alpine. At the Pacific Crest Open they earned Champion in the USHJA Hunter 2’6″ and the Long Stirrup Hunter 2’3″ 18 and over sections. A truly well deserved win.

Thank you to all the wonderful sponsors behind this award: Dianna Connelly Insurance Services, Kelsey King of American Mechanical Corp. Lindsey Spurgeon with Voltaire Design, Shannon Hendrickson of Signature West Farms, The Grange of Issaquah, and Denise Youell of Farpoint Farms.

Congratulations Jodi Gearon and Sarah Olmstead on Filibuster’s win!

We appreciate that you have a choice of shows to attend throughout the year. Thank you for choosing to spend time with us in the Cascades. We look forward to seeing you in Cle Elum!
